Introduction: Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) is a clinical condition characterized by nonimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and progressive kidney failure mediated by E.Coli Shiga-like toxin. In rare cases the inflammatory process may lead to beta-cell necrosis and, hence, overt diabetes mellitus.
